Snarkitecture is a collaboration between a designer and architect.

They created the temporary retail store for Richard Chai, under the highline in the meatpacking district. This was part of the Building Fashion series.

 

White architectural foam was used to carve out the shops cave like space, including shelves and hangers for the clothes to be displayed. I felt like I was in a fantastic snow cave that had the bonus of being warm. 

(Ice bar smice bar, I think this is the future) 

This was my third visit to the site, with out realizing it is a series! It has been different every time with various artists and designers collaborating. This was my favourite of the 3 pop-up shops I've seen.

Metric performed for the party. Which included Emily Haines singing a few songs acoustic. 

"pppsssst ..did you know she's Canadian?"

The free candy was a delightful treat.

Eco Party

An eco-party night with healthy alcohol and lots of tall model blondes.        

Left work Thursday evening and walked the two blocks, past the red carpet and in to the pureDKNY party. Pure DKNY is an environmentally conscious fragrance made by the company. SHFT is the new media platform that is uniquely environmental, founded by Adrian Grenier (better known as Vincent Chase from Entourage) and film producer Peter Glatzer. The party was to announce the opening of an eco-friendly pop-up gallery. Inside was full of art work from around the world and some sustainable design products.

SHFT and DKNY have partnered together as eco-conscious and the party was full of examples.

The yummy drinks served were mixed with VEEV, the world’s first Acai Spirit (according to their slogan anyways) $1 of each bottle purchased is donated to the preservation of the rainforest. Acai (pronounced ah-SIGH-ee) is Brazil’s national fruit that is thought to be the healthiest in the world. 

All I know is, I had some on the rocks, straight up and it was divine.

Bloody expensive for something that just makes you fat, but completely worth it for the unique flavours they offer. It's the most I've spent in Chinatown ever! You could get a dinner for the same price.

Punjabi

Besides the rent and sometimes cocktails in New York, there are some things you can get for unbelievably cheap. I for one have fallen head over heels with Punjabi's. It's 100% vegetarian and is full of NYC taxi drivers. $3 gets you rice with your choice of two vegetable curries. Pay an extra dollar and you can get roti instead of rice. The $1 Chai tea is the best I've found in North America.

The place is clean, filling, rather healthy and cheap cheap.

Mama and Papa Wilson come to Visit

A weekend with my wonderful parents

It was a very short but oh so sweet visit from the lovely parentals this past weekend.

From lunch at Lovely Days in Soho, to my mom trying unsuccessfully to track down a fake Tiffany necklace in Chinatown to the Meat Packing District for drinks at the Beer Garden, dinner at the delicious Fig & Olive and ending the evening with drinks at Buddhaka-famous for where Carrie Bradshaw had her engagement party.

Sunday morning was spent strolling the Highline after as massive 'American' breakfast and then waving goodbye in the village.

Miss you both already. Come back!

Vintage Finds

From you ... into my closet

I swore I wouldn't shop here...but shopping for second-hand doesn't really count right!?

I got this beauty at a second hand furniture store. Very random and extremely awesome! It also comes with a long sequin skirt which i plan on wearing as a tube dress.

$10 in Soho of all places!

THE DRESS

I met Peter for a quick “hello” during my lunch break in Soho and the end of his lunch meeting. While waiting to have keys cut for the office, I peeked in at a shop to find an adorable 80’s dress with a little frill and instantly fell in love. I thought, due to time constraints I would come back after work to try it on. Plus, Peter was complaining about his hungry tummy and need for a Vietnamese sandwich. 

That afternoon I went back to the shop really excited to try on the dress. To my disappointment, it wasn’t on the hanger where I had left it. I even asked the girl in the shop to check where it went. She found a receipt showing it had been bought during the afternoon. I was a little sad, so I left and made my way into a few other cute stores in the area. I did end up finding a sweet green vintage dress for $10, asked to wear it out of the shop and made my way to the M and then the G train, which were running well for once.

At home, I went to hang up my clothes in the closet and stopped to stare at a dress that looked exactly like the one I had wanted to try on. I stood there for what felt like well over a minute just contemplating how it ended up in my closet. Did I wish so hard for it that it teleported itself into my bedroom? Had it jumped into my bag earlier in the day and made it's way onto the hanger in my closet?

Then it dawned on me. . .
